More food in Vegas

Would you believe that we didn't stop at In-n-Out Burger on this trip!?! But no worries, we ate out share of burgers at other places.

It's a good thing that Hash House a go go opened recently.  In the front is the Mushroom and Swiss burger and behind it is the Kokomo (meatloaf sandwich), with a salad.

We also had burgers at the newly opened Holsteins in the Cosmopolitan. A classic burger on the left and the bbq burger with brisket on the right. (They both had fancy names, but I can't remember what they were). Delicious!

There were a few other dining adventures, like Metro Pizza, the Cupcakery and  The Cafe at Monte Carlo. But for this trip, that's all folks!

Holiday Celebrations

We had a lovely dinner at D. Vino in the Monte Carlo. Scallops with fried risotto and Panna Cotta. Need I say more?

Christmas in Hawaii doesn't offer many opportunites to have a White Christmas. So after checking road conditions we made the drive to Mt. Charleston to play in the snow.

Arriving in the desert...

We decided to take one last trip at the end of the year. Somewhere there would be a chill in the air... So we hopped on the plane (the new Airbus) to Vegas, of course!
Airbus

It was wet, dark and cold when we landed. You know how you can almost see the entire length of the strip? Well, the clouds were so low, that you could just barely see two properties ahead. We were hoping that the weather moves on quickly and change back to the crisp, dry desert that we are accustomed to.

A hearty breakfast should lift our spirits. This time we decided to try Black Bear Diner on Tropicana Ave.

That's all folks

Every one asks... "what do you play?" We stick to video poker with the occasional penny slots for amusement. Catch the Big one and Time Machine provided a little extra spending money. I'll end the Vegas posts by saying that we didn't hit any royals on this trip, but we each held our own... Until next time...

Next stop... pizza!

On previous trips, we've stayed out in the Summerlin area. So when we felt like a pizza, it meant a stop at Rocco's New York Pizza. If you go there, be sure to try the cannoli, yum! But this time we stayed on the strip, so the drive out to Summerlin was a bit too far for pizza. Luckily, we passed Metro Pizza on Decatur. It's always on the Review Journals Best of Las Vegas list. This location is in the strip mall with Makino Sushi. We always drive pass the area but never stopped for pizza.

M ordered the meatball sandwich. As usual, you have to be fast with the camera or there may be nothing left. G & I each ordered an individual pizza. Yup, that's for one person. Considering I also had a small salad as part of the lunch special, I'd say the portions are generous and the prices are reasonable. Metro Pizza is worth the stop!

Pink's

If you know me, you know that I'm not a fan of the color pink, but take me to Pink's Hot Dogs and you'll get no complaints from me! You can find one outside on Planet Hollywood Casino. Yes, outside in 90 degree desert sunshine. Luckily, we were able to get a table in the shade.

On the menu, too many choices, to list here. This is the Bacon Burrito dog, which was an easy way to eat a chili dog. The chili is fantastic! It two hot dogs with bacon, chili, cheese and onions wrapped in a burrito.

Next is a Brooklyn Pastami Dog and last is a Bacon Chili Cheese Dog. Fries are extra, of course.

Memphis BBQ

We have a favorite place for ribs in Vegas, but it never hurts to try somewhere else. On our last trip, we stopped at Memphis Championship Barbecue and tried the ribs. Very good, but the pulled pork sliders on the next table caught my attention. So this time, we tried The King and it was yummy - it's all in the sauce, right?

M ordered pork chops, but I didn't get the camera out in time to get a decent picture...

Hey Momma

The snacks for Japan will be put on hold for a bit, because we went on vacation! Here's some of what you missed. When we go to Vegas, I usually don't take too much pictures. This time was no different. I did however get some photos of the food that you missed. Nothing fancy, no photos of the buffets. Just plain ole every day, fill 'em up comfort food. Our first stop after we got off the plane was The Egg Works.
There were so many things on the menu that I wanted to try, skillets, waffles, crepes... but I ended up with the Sundance Special Omelette.
It's filled with spinach, mushrooms and artichokes topped with tomatoes and feta cheese. It's a half order, but still more than enough for one person, especially with the potatoes and the delicious banana muffin.
M had the Traditional Benny and G had the French Toast. It was the perfect stop after the long flight and a great way to start our vacation.
